On March 21 Global Days of Listening will celebrate the Afghan New Year( Nowruz ), with a discussion involving the Afghan Peace Volunteers, friends in Iraq, Afghanistan and Gaza, and YOU, if you choose to tune in. Nowruz, the New Year, is celebrated in Afghanistan (as well as Iran and Kurdistan) on March 21 every year. In these cultures, the New Year is is a celebration of life that takes place on the Spring Equinox.
Global Days of Listening are a series of livestreamed international conversations over Skype between people in the United States and the Afghan Peace Volunteers (APV) in Kabul. Afghanistan. Others from around the world join the conversation. Every call is unique with participants from around the US and around the world. The calls take place on the 21st of each month, and you can check the time and the schedule of speakers on the Global Days of Listening Website.
Details: This month, Kathy Kelly of Voices for Creative Nonviolence will initiate the discussion with the Afghan Peace Volunteers. The APVs will provide updates on “Enough!“, the Street Kids School, and recent workshops held at the Borderfree Center. They will also report on the cycling event held in Kabul on the 9th in honor of International Women’s day. The group activity and public presence was certainly in alignment with the UN theme: “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality”.
